Mini-Vaca for the Husband and I!

So Nick and I decided to take a trip to Baltimore, MD as a mini vacation for a few days to get away seeing I will be starting school on Tuesday and will be very busy until I graduate.  The reason for going to Baltimore is of nothing less then the Orioles play in two games against the White Sox.  Not only did Nick play baseball growing up, but he has been an Orioles fan for more then half his life!  I'm not big into baseball but to see his face light up and his eyes sparkle at the thought of seeing them play live makes everything worth it for me.

Anyway, upon Tuesday morning arriving, we got up pretty much when we felt like getting up (9:30ish) and took our time getting ready (seeing the game wasn't until 7).  Not only was the traveling not to bad, but the rest of the day went very pleasingly as well.  We hit hardly any traffic and was able to make it to the hotel room at about 3:30ish.  We checked and had a little while till we had to go to the baseball game.  We decided to go to Pizza Hut for dinner around 4:30 and I ordered a P'Zone (AMAZING!) and Nick believe-it-or-not ordered soup and salad, very healthy I might add.  We then got to the game around 5:30 because Nick went by the entrance and instead of pulling a U-turn he figured he could just go all the way around the stadium.  Instead, we ended up back on the highway going the opposite direction of the stadium (HA-HA-HA).
Once we finally made it  into the stadium we went instantly to behind the left side of the field to catch home-runs from batting practice (we didn't get any that time).  Now because of the price of tickets we were at first sitting in the nose-bleed sections.  However, they did provide a pretty amazing view of the diamond.  At about the 4th inning however, we did move down to a few sections over from the 3rd base.  The lost unfortunately but then again, what else is new (they are last in their division).

On Wednesday we decided to take a ride to Washington, DC on a whim (seeing the game again wasn't until 7).  We toured the entire city (well the important parts) in two hours, exactly the way it should be done.  We got the pictures we needed and the information in our brains to prove we were there and then headed out.  We met a very nice parking meter guy when we first got there and this is because we only had one quarter and we needed 4 so we went over to him and asked if he had change for a dollar and he said no but then after realizing why we were asking he told us not to worry about it that he would take care of us.  Sure enough, we get back to the car and we still had 15 minutes left! :-) I like nice people! Then on the way home we decided that instead of having to pay for both a lunch a dinner we would just have a really big lunch.  We decided on this place called Bob Evans and OH MY GOODNESS!!! It was soooooooooo good!  I got Country Fried Steak and Nick got this Chicken Noodle Soup thing where there was a biscuit with mashed potatoes on it and then home-made chicken noodle soup on top of that.

The second game was definitely much more fun.  Upon getting there we didn't pass the entrance this time and the parking lot we had to park in was actually closer to the field then the last one.  THEN upon moving to the back part of the stadium, Nick caught not only one but TWO balls from batting practice!!!  The way his face lit up will probably stay with me for awhile, he was just beyond happiness.  Again we were in the nosebleeds, but that's ok because again at the bottom of the 4th we moved down again and this time we were in the section right behind 3rd base!  And of course, what would being at a stadium be like without taking full advantage of it.  Tuesday night Nick ordered a hotdog from on of the guys who walk up and down the stairs yelling "HOTDOG, GET YOUR HOTDOG HERE!"  Then on Wednesday night he got Chicken and Fries (YUUUUM!)

However, the trip home wasn't as pleasant.  We had to pick up a co-worker of mine's daughter in New Jersey and then drop her off in Norwalk which means we had to travel I-95 all the way home.  Well as everyone probably knows, 95 is AWFUL no matter what part of the day and no matter what day of the week.  The company we had was definitely worth it though!  I was supposed to go to work that night and unfortunately although we left at 9:00 am, we didn't get back till after 7:00 pm.

Overall, it was a very fun trip with my husband! :-)

Even though I knew most of what you posted, it was still fun reading about it. I was pleased to see you both wearing your orange shirts, very fan-like of you both. I am so pleased you had a good time. It was so, like grown-up of you two to go all that way and figure out parking, going to DC....my babies are growing up!

Tony and I spent a night in Baltimore last summer, and saw the Orioles play the Yankees. I think there were as many Yankees fans there as there were Orioles fans. Tony, too, has been an Orioles fan all his life. We had the cheap seats too--along the 3rd-base line, I think--but it was still so much fun. Plus, the day we were there was the day Cal Ripken was inducted into the Hall of Fame (and Tony LOVES him), so we got to see the cermeony on the Jumbotron screen after the game, which was just the icing on the cake.

We weren't outfitted in team colors when we got there, but on our way to the stadium, it seemed like everyone had some kind of team logo on, so we bought ourselved a couple baseball hats just outside the stadium. :)

And, also--I remember how confusing the roads/higways are around the stadium! I'm pretty sure we found ourselves going in a wrong direction a couple times.

I blogged about this, and I would link you, but unfortunately, all the pics were on Ringo, which is now gone, so you wouldn't be able to see any of the pics. :(

I really enjoyed visiting Oriole Park the few times we went. It's such a unique stadium...and the nachos were really good, too! (I made it a point of getting nachos everywhere we went back in the day).

The last time we were in Baltimore, we went to the Aquarium and strolled around the waterfront. They have a Little Italy there, too, where we ate one night. Cute place, Baltimore!

Glad you guys enjoyed yourselves, D and I went on lots of these mini vacations while in PA and I enjoyed every single one of them because now it'll be us plus at least one! :)
