Germany

The distance we once were living with!!! but NO MOREEEEEEE!!! :) :) :) ;)

Well as you all know, I have finally made it to Germany. Saturday marked exactly 2 weeks that I have been here and I LOVE IT! Not only do I get to be with my wonderful husband but I am living in a different country!!!

The first few days was a little rough due to jet lag and trying to get thru the time difference, but seeing I'm not working it wasn't to difficult because if I was tired I could easily lay down. It was really nice that Nick had a 4-day weekend the weekend I came so he had Monday off as well. Gave him time to show me around and help me get comfortable with the base. Then while he was at work, I made a couple friends already and one of the wives husband is actually really good friends with Nick so the four of us have already had get togethers and they were very enjoyable! It'll be nice to have these girls when the boys are gone! :-)

I've already adapted a FAVORITE food/dessert type thing called Spaghetti Ice, which is whip cream on the bottom, vanilla ice cream put thru a strainer to make it look like spaghetti, strawberry topping and finally coconut shaving on top for parmesan cheese. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! I'm actually surprised that America doesn't have this dessert yet! lol!

Then on Tuesday the 17th we went back to the airport to pick up Cody pup! :) and of course he made himself right at home...crazy mutt!

Last Saturday we went to Trier which was about 45 minutes away. It was SOOOOOO much fun! It was just like this huge market area surrounded by buildings that had a nice mixture of stores I knew and German stores (some I knew: H&M, Subway, McDonalds). What's so interesting is, we parked and there didn't seem to be ANYTHING going on...so we just decided to follow the people in front of us and we started walking down a cobblestone street and we came around a corner and then all of a sudden it just opened up to this huge market area! It was so cool! We thought we stopped in a city that didn't have anything going on and we walk around a corner and then there everything is!
Coffee and coke in Idar-Oberstein

Then this past Wednesday Nick left me to head to Graff for a 4 week FTX (Field Training Exercise) and won't be back till September 21st and then will be home for about a week and then heads back out for about 3 weeks. Oh, the life of an Army wife! LOL! To put it simply, I have definitely grown to have a deeper appreciation and respect for that husband of mine. You never know just how precious time is until there doesn't ever seem to be enough of it...

Nice post, Kristina. You should post more often so we can experience Germany with you! It does sound like you are in a nice area to explore Europe. We hope to do the same exploring in 2012! Love, mom
